Indicates Mr Boyle with a pointed teaspoon, “Jesus, listen to me; I need a smack over the head. That sounds as stupid as something you’d say.”

The Herald-Sun newspaper dated March 2, 2012 featured an article about head trauma in sports, written by Andrew Rule. You can read it at:

Let’s face it; head injury is the big fucking elephant in the room at my house. Continue reading

Aboke Abductions

Something interesting I found while surfing the ‘net. To give you a taste:

The Aboke abductions were the kidnapping of 139 secondary school student females from St. Mary’s College boarding school by rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army on October 10, 1996, in Aboke, northern Apac District, Uganda. The deputy head mistress of the college, Sister Rachele Fassera, of Italy, pursued the rebels and negotiated the release of 109 of the girls. The Aboke abductions and Fassera’s dramatic actions drew international attention, unprecedented at that time, to the insurgency in northern Uganda. Continue reading

The late 20th-early 21st century sees a world in which 60% of its inhabitants live below the poverty line. The ‘Kony 2012’ campaign, regardless of who runs it or for what reason, ostensibly seeks to make famous a man who presses children into sex slavery or warfare. Continue reading

Sam's Comment, or Showing Jarrod Who's Boss

Every time a woman responds to something I have written on this blog relating to feminism, she claims she can’t understand it [see ‘Why I do Not Call Myself a Feminist]. I think Sam’s comment, however, is the most astute and insightful I have received here. I wanted to feature it as a post in its own right – because of its perspicacity, but also because I guess I need to talk about the grinding of this particular axe.  Continue reading

In case you missed it: Yumi Stynes, professional dick-head, recently described  Victoria Cross winner Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith as ‘brainless’ in relation to a shirtless photograph of him in the pool. George Negus went on to ponder whether or not he was a ‘dud root’. Continue reading

Happy Thought for the Day

“First they came for the communists, but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the Jews but I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists, but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn’t speak up because I was a protestant.

Then they came for me, and by that time, there was no one left to stand up.”
