This Nike ad features Dutch-Turkish kickboxer, Gokhan Saki.
He must be the first kickboxer ever to make it to a Nike ad. It’s proof of how good he is and how big a sport kickboxing is in Turkey.
I am proud to say I knew him when.

Semmy Schilt is one of the most dominant champions in the history of fightsports. Standing at two-meters-twelve-centimeters and weighing somewhere in the vicinity of one-hundred-and-thirty kilos, he towers over not only his opponents, but also, the history of the sport itself. In Queensland, people grow all kinds of crazy things in their backyards. At Jamie Stamp’s house in Ormeau, it happens to be a kickboxing gym.
“It started off as a small shed down the back of the house,” says Jamie. “Since Anthony [Vella] has come along, the place has grown in leaps and bounds. It’s getting bigger and bigger! Before I met him, I walked past this picture every day on my way into the gym. Continue reading
The Herald-Sun newspaper dated March 2, 2012 featured an article about head trauma in sports, written by Andrew Rule. You can read it at:
Let’s face it; head injury is the big fucking elephant in the room at my house. Continue reading
My updated kickboxing showreel, courtesy of Nick Moore. He’s been joking about making a version where I sustain all the hits. Probably not a bad idea – there’s probably more than a few people who would enjoy it.

My internet home page is set to The Age Newspaper Online. I like to skim over it before reading my emails; it helps orient me for the day. Of late, however, reading The Age has begun to get me down. Apparently, I live in the quintessential Australian city, and the best, most polite word I can use to describe it is aspirational.
